If these are in fact the original box pictures the seller was shopping around, the box is either different, or has been repaired since being photographed by Mr. Gottlieb.

It looks like the same box CG posted at the start of the thread to me

The thread (like on first post of this thread) of German Daggers has been deleted.

So the box has been played with and the thread on GDC has been deleted, is there a connection?? You bet your sweet ass there is.....maybe CG would like to comment on both issues.

I spoke with Mr. Boyle yesterday, and he made his position on die-flaws very clear. He told me that since his first book came out, he had already stated that, ..... "just because it does not have a die-flaw does not mean it's not original, as other things have to be taken into consideration when authenticating an Honor Ring, whether a 1930's or 1940's style, so let the people on the forum ramble on, as I know the differences." I have the 2nd edition of Don's first book, and the subject of die-flaws is not mentioned anywhere. This was intentional, as I specifically remember the conversation I had with him back then, when he told me about the TKR die-flaws, and asked me to keep most of the things quiet that he told me about the HR. I don't believe many people even knew about die-flaws back then. Ever since I've known Don Boyle, he has been reluctant to give out too much information on this elusive and sought-after artifact. For all you prospective totenkopfring purchasers out there, if you're confused by all the drama surrounding TKR's, just buy a totenkopfring directly from Mr. Boyle or his friend, Andy - COA included. Don has sold quite a few TK Rings over the years , and you don't see any of them being picked apart on the forum. Why is that? Because he's honest, and he knows what he's talking about.

Even Craig sells rings with a COA from Don Boyle!!

                  2 things,,
                  - first,
the topic from Craig about this very same box and ring is still on GDC. Nothing has been deleted..

                  2nd.
Years ago I was co-moderator with Don on his HR forum. The one thing that always was said and agreed upon is that the late pattern HRs all had the die flaws. I see Don at the MAX shows from years back and also spoken to him about it many times. He has always said to look for the die flaws on the late pattern HRs,,if they're not there , go on to the next ring! He's said this to many other collectors also...
Why he is reversing himself after many years of saying it I can't tell you, nor do I believe a late pattern HR could not have the flaws...
Even stranger is that he wrote this HR does not display the flaws,,yet the HR Craig shows clearly does have them.
Big piece missing here, something not right...........

Yup, and this thread is a testament to that. Maybe the end of this thread will hold the answers conclusively that we seek........ hopefully before 2012

                      I believe you'll find that's quite unlikely

The easy answer is to just buy rings with Boyle's c.o.a.'s then you don't after waste your time reading these sort of threads.

Gaspare - I can't speak for Don on this subject, as I don't know why the discrepancy exists. I have e-mailed him to ask that he illuminate. My guess is that, if such "no die-flaw" rings do exist, they must be exceedingly rare. I will comment upon his reply.
