    "long face" TK - good one?

    Dont know how to call that type, please correct me.

    This is the 1st time since almost 20 years I have seen this type of scull (the others where groundfinds from a local POW-camp).

    So is that one a good one, too? Why is it "slim" in comparission to a normal one? If real, is it unfinished - or where the nose and eyes painted black (as someone guessed)?

      GS,

      My two cents here; I think it's a fake.

          No worries - its not mine.

          But the question still stands: What was this kind of skull been used for? 20 years ago I have been told its for sidecaps, but...

            IMO Fake and therefore wouldn't have been used on any caps

              Maybee I was not clear enough: I have seen a handfull of those small-face TK, straight from the ground, of an SS-POW-camp close to my home. so THOSE were real, and were used. But where?

                Patrick,
                not really sure what you mean but if there is a german made "elongated" ("long face"?) version then it has IMO to be the Overhoff (M1/24) skull which is in none of your pics.

                Beside that the skulls were naturally different among and within makers (to some degree).

                I can't think of any metal ss cap skull other than skull buttons that was intended to be used with side caps (although they were frequently used on such).

                      The fake (closed eye) skull looks to be a very poor attempt to copy a very early 1934era D.&.S.M Skull, here is an original for comparison

                        IMO it's a very poor casting from this very sad fake ;

                          As for poorly made " small-faced " originals dug up at a POW camp , these may have been the Latvian ones .. ?

                            This looks very familiar! - Have just called the guy who was metal detcting there for years, found lots of stuff. He will check if he still has some left.
