What is your favourite SS item from your collection?

While I am not an SS collector, I will say that the jewelry firm, Wagner was noted for their wonderful work. The Luftwaffe honor goblets and salvers were very nicely executed. The plate shown by Alfred is extremely crude from the photos posted. Perhaps they are poor pictures but the SS runes and swastika are of such poor quality that I would have a difficult time believing this can be attributed to just poor photography.

The discussion of the 3 SS items posted by Alfred should, IMO, be moved to another thread since it is drawing away from some nice pieces being posted.

I would have to say that these two pieces tie for my favorite pieces from my own collection.
In value, they are completely different, but in rarity, both are near impossible to find.

i am very sorry and surprized to hear you say that all three of my ss treasures are fantisy or made up junk the reinhard heydrich birthday gift from von tashammer also marked by german jeweler who made it his name is sharft that surfaced with a cased knights cross in new england thirty some odd years later guessheer scharf he never made any ss jewelry only you would know this fact and no one else the necklace is signed by Karolina gahr and dated 1938 tell me she never made any jewelry for the third reich . i all ways for last fifteen years trusted and respected your expert opinion on ss hats cloth etc but now i dont except your opinion i except my own prove me wrong if you even think you can prove me wrong then show me all the fantisy copies or outhers that look like my original ss treasures please present the proof of the puddin we are all waiting boy this seems to be just jeliousy back years ago i owned bakers dozen of ss honor rings thats 13 rings i was told how come you own so many ss honor rings simple answer i paid for them thats how i got them i didnt say to the jelious person how come you own 21 golden party badges thats non of my bussiness what any body ownes terrible jelious people in this world thanks very much andy alfred 213

Alfred, whatever the disposition (whether authentic or fake-not my area of expertise so I will not comment on that) of your SS items are, I don't care. If you love them then so be it. Just like social media, the same rules of forum apply. If you don't want your pieces being questioned or you don't want to be personally attacked, you should have never posted them or allowed your friend to do so. You have opened up a can of worms. Also, one last piece of advice: you counter-commenting on others just makes you look like a fool. Although there are some members giving you constructive criticism, others are sitting back behind their computer screens laughing at you. Please quit posting and move on. I wish you the best.

Hello Mil,

The top piece is an original, (and controversial, due to many recent fakes), SS tuxedo breast badge insignia made of aluminum. These are mostly rare because of the fact that this type of formal dress uniform was only worn for a few years until it was quickly discontinued. You can find more info about this uniform on the Internet if you wish.
It is my understanding that only a dozen or so are known to exist within the collecting community here.

The bottom piece is a ribbon bar awarded to an SS member. It is also very rare because it has the miniature device that represents the SS 4-year long service medal, (made of Tombac). There were miniatures awarded for at least, the 4, 8, and 12 year SS service medals that are known to exist, (all of which are extremely rare because again, these pieces were only awarded for a few years until they were discontinued). Also, the SS service medals were only awarded to members of certain branches of the SS, (Allgemeine and Waffen SS not included).
It is still a bit strange, because the actual full size SS service medals, (at least, the 4 and 8 year versions), are not all that rare.
The collector's reference section of this website states that only two or three examples have ever been encountered of each type, (when the page was created), although a few more examples have been acknowledged since then.

Anyway, these are my two favorites, due to rarity alone. It took a lot of effort and funds to acquire them after several years of searching, (although they are very similar to other average SS items, as far as materials and construction methods are concerned).

There will always be minor differences from one example to another, just like with SS cap skulls, (even though they were all die struck).
