Thanks guys
The skijegerbatalion was almost annihilated mid summer -44 when the russians stormed their positions at hill Kaprolat and Hasselmann i Karelia, (x)Finland.
There where severe resistance and close combat.
A few managed to escape swimming across a lake under heavy fire.
My grandfather`s neighbour was a funker at Hasselmann. Me and member Norge had the pleasure of getting his storys when he lived.
Anyway, the skijegers had reported vast russian activity during a longer period to the german commands without any precaution was taken.
Many officers was on leave in Norway when it broke loose.
I remember reading that in the end of the fighting a MG gunner was standing on top of a bunker firing from his hip, a crew was removing safety pin just handing the grenades to throwers for rapid fire effect.
Today there is a team removing the norwegians who fell at the hills as they have been lying in the open until this day.
Can someone give a good link with pics?
Cheers!
Jepp Gisle, you have the named nowegian SS helmet, but I got a extremely rare unmessed norwegian black ss cloth
