This is one of those childhood " myths " I would definitely like to learn more about .. !
It has been around since the first books on WW2 militaria I read - none serious - and never proven .
And looking at the pics provided , at least the SS-eagle attached is an obvious fake .

Same period as the fake SS butterfly knives .. ? Nice piece of armament though , whenever it was designed .
The more serious question - were period sketches ever found ?

I would have though the buckle would have been made of a stamped eagle instead of a cap style eagle. But it was just a prototype never put into use.Still a well made gun buckle .

If even a single prototype ( or blueprint ) is known to exist , I don't think the makers of the items shown should take credit for this mythical " secret weapon ".. ?

With those crappy markings I doubt this was ever a prototype.

First time I ever heard of one of these was when one was pictured in the old "SS Regalia" (or "Nazi Regalia") books. Anyone have a pic of that one?

The Jack Pia soft cover books right? I checked the SS one and Nazi regalia one and these buckles are not in it...The SS one does show a very dubious nurses SS Lebensborn buckle, also with a cap style SS eagle mounted on it... Maybe that is what you saw?

I think somebody was also making these in Birmingham (England) in the 60's
Also some with nicely engraved front plates.
Too many turned up at the same Auction house about then.

...or you would think they would at least have used an original TR SS cap eagle, instead of a fake pigeon-headed post-war reproduction.

Maybe these were made for Nazis living in Argentina after the war.

It would be plain stupid to hide a weapon in in a steel buckle.
Belt and buckle are the first things you will have to hand in when arrested.
