Rare SS ring 1941 found in Narva.

    Rare SS ring 1941 found in Narva.

    Hi.

    This ring was found in Narva in September 2009.

    The SS runes build 1 mm. out of the plate.
    On the back it is stamped R 41 and to the left a small mark difficult to read.

    In silver and I think the R 41 means 1941.

            The small marking on the outher ring band might be a "tukan"

                Hi Bernhard.

                It looks like a "tukan" but when I use a mag.glas it migth be a crown of something like that, not like the markings on the link you have posted.
                Another collector thinks this ring is Dutch made because of the R 4 or R 41 marking.

                  Hello Derek ,

                  me again ..
                  The left hallmark is no Tukan , but the DUTCH hallmark ( tax-stamp ) for low content silver - viewed sideways .
                  During the occupation , silver was no longer available to private juwelers - so they had to make do by melting 2nd hand silver , and pre-WW2 silver coins . After that , taxes still had to be paid for resale .
                  The marking itself was abolished in 1953 ..

                  I'll get back to you on the maker's mark - there seem to have been several members of this particular family of juwelers . And this is one period of history where the ( embarrassing ) documentation is scarce ..

                  Striking simplicity , and Dutch-made found in Narva - a very welcome surprise between all the " dug " fantasy Stalingrad rings - Congrats ..!
