Wow! It looks like it's from Snyders treasure of junk. All we are missing is a make up story to go along with it

                    Story?

Well a Veteran down the Street from me who lives alone let me cut his Grass this Summer. He is really sick and one day he invited me in for Lemonade and I told him I was interested in WW2. He disappeared for a moment and returned with an old burlap bag containing this Etui and a single NCO Runic patch with well worn lightning bolts. He told me he flushed out a SS Hitler Youth Sniper in the Battle for Caen and he cut off this collar patch and took this Etui out of his breast pocket. He can only remember that the Sniper was an NCO and wearing complete camo clothing and wore some type of award for kills on his sleeve. He thinks this Sniper had killed a least a dozen men in the last two days before they got him out of his Hide with Mortar Fire. For his actions that day he was awarded the Bronze Star.

                        etui

This piece aside, Hitler was so anti-smoking (According to Speer he would offer watches to anyone who would give up smoking), would he give cigarette cases out to his soldiers who smoked? Does anyone know of documented etui give out by AH? Greg

During that Era silver cigarette cases and boxes were a common present, irrespective of weather the donor partook of the habit or not.
Considering the fondness The Fuhrer had for handing out trinkets of the sort I am sure examples do exist.
                          There is a myriad of AH Silver,presentation and otherwise.....Desk boxes,Letter Chests.Match Holders,Cigar cases..
Surely some Notable Parteigenosse must have gotten a Shiny receptacle for his cancer sticks?

Hitler gave Otto Skorzeny a fancy gold cigarette case overlaid with white enamel (I believe it was for the Mussolini rescue mission)

                              Here's a pic.

"Gold death's head ring and cigarette case, presented by Adolf Hitler to SS-Sturmbannführer Otto Skorzeny, following his dramatic rescue of Italian leader Benito Mussolini on September 12, 1943. The case was made at the Allach works and signed by designer Benno von Arendt,
the President of the Fraternity of German Artists"

And comments on the Otto Skorzeny (OS) ownership by Gaspare:

the provenance is,, OS,, to the US Army interpreter,, he died,,the family learned of its great value,,and the pieces sold on auction a few years ago to a private collector.

There is plenty of documentation he was OS interpreter and that they became friends during OS time in jail [original letters and documentation were sold along with the 2 pieces etc].

The items are in some sort of private museum in the Northeast,,so private no one gets to see the stuff ... At first I went to them for the story of the items . They were ,,well in plain words jerk offs.. I got nowhere with them. Wanting the story for a little project I'm doing I back tracked and got a hold of a friend of the interpreters family who asked the family if I could do a short write up,, they also wanted no part of it. This person being a close friend gave me some info and with that was able to do the short write up,,but I still hadn't any photos.. A little more digging around and I was able to get the photo shown here but much better,clearer/larger,,a couple color of the ring, and some black and whites. Also a very detailed description of the 2 pieces, their marks history etc...

The ring for the most part is one of the standard pattern skull rings with added runes to the sides and an engraving. Case designed by B.V. Arndt [I know spelled wrong] and actually made in Dachau [gold, silver and porcelain!] for OS.
