Latvija shield - good or bad?

This Latvia shield is another of those items I've had for thirty years or so. Time to find out whether it's real or junk.

    Thank you very much!

Well made with SS tresse with black lines incorporated in the design.
I still like it for how its been executed! The backing material on the reverse is a turn off though!

I think I am with Nick on this one. But it is not SS tresse, but Luftwaffe tresse.
It has been in a collection for 30 years and I believe that.

Looking at how well made it is in its own special construction and design - my guess is that it is a special order private purchase for an officer. It has a good chance to be an original.

One test is... if it glows under a black light.

            Cheers,
            Felix

Thank you Nick & Felix for taking the time to comment.

I won't toss this one into the junk pile just yet. It certainly is a well made piece. I wish I could remember where I got it. It was probably at a Ft. Thomas, KY miltary show but it also could've been through mail order.

I'll dig up a black light and see what happens. It may take a few days before I can find one.

Dumb Question Time - Is is good or bad if it glows?

              Thanks Again!

                Glowing would be bad!

(although they had synthetic tread in ww2...but that is another discussion, not rellevant at this point)

I got no clue why Casino calls this the "SS style". Perhaps because they remind a bit about the SS alte kämpfer winkel. But they are rather differently executed in style as well being made in silver thread.

From my knowledge it is a pure Luftwaffe tresse.

                    Cheers,
                    Felix
