I assume the stamp has nothing to do with the cap, and is just a private one.
When I am not wrong it reads "Versicherungen".

Would he have been wearing it while selling his insurance policies ? Nice early skull type ..

It is weird... I guess the owner used his insurance business (company) stamp to "property mark" his private purchase cap...
which explains the"versicherungens" verbeage appearing on the cap.

He was in the reserves perhaps? Its not an officers cap...and why have the stamp appear in 2 locations...?
A little redundant or its been embellished like that by somebody to make it even more believable, more appealing... it being a named piece now?...
Perhaps the name can be verified in the rosters? If there is a match its a plus. I am definately not an expert on these but I do like the cap...
too bad about the visor missing, if its determined to be real...

Ok, well, let me ask you what is right about the cap?

Something doesn't seem right here, what is this? Evidence of the runes? Have the other photos been modified to remove them in accordance to German law?
Whatever the case, the side lining is a mess.

I think that's just glare, Ben. Personally, I like the cap overall- a visor won't be too hard to find...

Just order a new one here in Germany.

In which years did this eagle go with that type of skull - can anybody tell?

The style of this hat is 1937 or later IMO. The M36 eagle is appropriate for this hat. That skull however is not typically found with the M36 eagle, but the set looks nicely matched. To answer your question directly, the skull would be found with the M29 eagle, not the one present on this hat. This combination would have been of personal preference, or added later due to the scarcity of the M34 style skulls. By later, I mean by a collector. Again, nice match.
