Thought you might like a few shots from my early Schule Tolz album.

I've seen a lot of barracks pictures with groups troops in improperly worn uniforms, joke items in wear, helmets backwards, etc. It seems to be a standard "My Service" image in albums.

Does anyone know if they are part of a "holiday" or regular event such as a graduation? It has a "let the enlisted guys have their day" feel to it. I'm very interested in any thoughts on this. Thanks!

Oh and thank you guys for the photos! Awesome early VT stuff.

that's what war is, they take innocent young boys and turn them into men or corpses

                            That´s called Budenzauber.

Sometimes it happened/happens on special occasions, sometimes there was - after a long manöver and march out in the Heide or Senne - just many thirsty men, a sudden birthday invitation, a hidden Schnaps treasure to demilitarize and so it goes!

When my brother was a Panzerpionier in Höxter they had fun by locking one innocent nerd into his Spind (closet) and throwing the thing over the balcony into the inner coartyard.
Next morning the Spiess came for a visit...

Well, at least we now know the appropriate style of underwear for our SS mannequins!! But, if you think THIS is gay, you should see the photos my stepfather brought from the Navy from when they crossed the equator. They're wearing wigs made from mops, and makeup. I KNEW those photos were gay before I even knew what gay WAS!! So did I inherit anything really cool like a Japanese flag or sword ? Of course not! The best he could muster was some fruity photos of men in drag, and a tiny little pistol from China that lit your cigarette when you pulled the trigger. I don't even smoke. These pathetic war souvenirs DID come with provenance, however. Big deal.
