That is actualy proof that original material was used in the construction, converting zeltsbahns into field caps...
This was done during the war...as factory made caps were not always available...
So company tailors recycled (worn out) zeltbahns and made such caps which are not always text book in construction.
The problem of course is that this practice was continued after the war to fool collectors... That's why such non factory versions are such a mine field, but way cheaper than factory made caps. So prior stitch holes are not necessarily a red flag...
Its just proof that recycled material (authentic fabric) was used...so at least that part of the cap is real!Last edited by NickG; 05-26-2010, 12:48 AM.
