Sheets aside, you'll notice that ALL the experts who weighed in AGREE. You can't possibly screw something up if you don't mess around with it. I used to monkey around with stuff, and usually ended up regretting it. Many years ago, I cut a tiny circle of wool from the bottom of the shoulderboard on an SA brownshirt, to patch a moth hole on the unit collar tab.
I patched the hole perfectly, so at a short distance, you couldnt even tell. But EVERY SINGLE TIME I looked at the shirt, my eyes automatically searched for that area, and it bothered me to the point, I actually felt that I ruined the entire shirt.
