    SD tunic

I am in the process of restoring an SD officers tunic. I need some answers to two questions. Firstly it seems from period pics that the SD sleeve diamond was worn both with silver braid and without, by officers and nco's irrespectively. It that correct? Secondly did the SD always wore the black " blank" cufftitle, or what was the criteria for the wear of the cufftitle?

If anyone knows where I can find the above items and also an officers sleeve eagle please let me know. Jacques

      Hello Jacques,

Restoring an SD Officer tunic? That sounds like a choice offering many options, and would allow for a multitude of approaches - and an equally interesting and complex topic for research. Any pictures of what you are starting with?

This might be a good start for the answer to your question, and a great place to go for further research of the topic:

There seems to be a lot of discussion about all of the various insignia utilized by the SD here . . .

Good luck, and can't wait to see your project!

I've always wondered the reason why Kripo's Arthur Nebe wore a couple of times the piped SD diamond, while, for example, Heydrich always wore the unpiped version.

Thank you for the comments guys, and the link Brad. Nextquestion, was there an officers version in the SD diamond in silver bullion or did everyone use the white version? Jacques

Yes there was an officers version in bullion. Several examples with minor variations like "single leg D" (most common) and "integrated leg D" exists and can be seen on this forum if you do a search. Examples are visible in reference books as well, like Angolias SS cloth.

If someone told me the SS-Ustf shooting the pistol was Eichmann I'd be hard-pressed to argue with them. He has the same nose, ears, and the same 'sneering' lips

I haven't run the awards but he looks a dead ringer to me.

                No SA Sportabzeichen for Eichmann.
