    LAH Artillery Shoulderboards

These boards have features I like and others I don't. The piping is original silky red material, and the tops and bottoms are good wartime grade wool. The black backing material on the tongues looks good.

The LAH embroidery looks like it was done by hand, and with a heavier
grade cotton than a standard thread. It was not done by machine, like a standard earlier war board set.

The button holes has the correct serge-type sewning technique, but are not a true key-hole design - look at the bottom.

    My specific questions are:

    1) Has anyone seen this type of division cypher embroiedry on original boards?

    2) has anyone seen this style of bottonholing?

    regards, Robert

That style certainly was used on shoulder boards.

I only have one single with round end and a pair with white piping and pointed ends, but that pair is on the original tunic.

                  Bob,

Your embroidery is quite different in about a dozen details.

Yes, if you could every bend and turn in the font on Bob's, plus placement and overall size there are even more detail variations.

Even embroidered cyphers on (original) boards that were originally paired together have variations in the shape of the LAH cyphers. That is not so much what put me off as the fact the letters were done by hand an the example I posted, and were not machine done like Bob's. The tear-drop shaped finish to the bottom of buttonhole design instead of the typical design was also a point of caution.

I believe these are replica shoulderboards, but sometimes it's easier to post them and get concensus then to try to explain to a seller why they are bad. I appreciate the opinions and observations - thanks.

                    regards, Robert

                        Nice boards guys!

I'm note sure, but were EM Ari boards for instance ever issued with red embroidery directly to the board?

So far I have always only seen the all white infantry boards, but stiching complete in Waffenfarbe?!

Can anyone shed a light pls?

                        Thanks!

IMO the initial straps with LAH are repros. They are far away from known original.

Here is an answer that many don't agree with. These are photos of a vet find. I have also seen a number of B&W photos where you could tell the cyphers were dark colored...not white, and were direct embroidery on the boards. I don't have time to search now.
