      Whats the latest conclusion?

      Tony;

      Do I get you right when I say you have changed your mind about the eagle Im beeing offered? You still think it may be an original or not? I know Gary Wood expressed some concerns about it having a "machine embroidered look" over it. Actually I recognized the "too perfect" embroidery as well. But it may be good as well??

      >>Peter: I believe all bullion insigina was made one top of a cardboard template. Even the hand sewn.

      Thanks for all commets gents

      /Felix

        Felix,
        no I did not say that, what I said was I did not like the fact that both eagles have been machine sewn on to something in exactly the same way, and the type of the stitching is "imo" very strange for an officers eagle,

        This is because with any wear at all the edges would fray!,
        Also without going into details both of the above are coming from the same source, both show something odd in my mind,
        cheers,
        gary

            I can see from the photo above it gets somewhat distorted when the picture is uploaded to the site, the stitching around both eagles are a straight stitch like - - - - - - - - - that if you get what I mean

              Yes I see now...

              Im very sorry Gary for this Its just that my mind is totally confused! Now I understand what you mean. Actually I didnt notice this. If you light up the images you see it more clearly. I thought you meant meachine embroidered onto a template.

              Keep up the good work! And thanks again Gary

                Hi Felix;

                Yes, you are correct in that I'm reversing my opinion. I would NOT buy the bird. Please don't be confused. There are other factors involved that were not evident on the image posted here on the forum. When I saw the undistorted image (sometimes images become distorted when uploaded to the forum, I know because enough of mine do) it totally changed my perspective. Please keep in mind that these are only opinions and when I look at an item I view it as if I was purchasing it for myself. This is one of those items that after a clearer view of it, I would not want. Sort of like seeing an item on a dealers table, look at it and think about it, walk away and think about it some more, go back to the dealers table, look at it again and then decide against it. I hope that makes sense to you.

                Peter;

                No, these birds have a cardboard "unterlagen" just as other hand embroidered officer items do.
                Best regards,

                Tony

                  Gary/Tony. thanks for the interesting comments. Are you saying that the edges of the wool underlay should be frayed due to wear? also, what sort of stitching would you want to see on an officer's sleeve eagle? Hand sewn? Zig Zag?

                    Just to add my twopenceworth, I was also asked by Felix to provide my views on this via PM, which I did last week.

                    For the information of others, I do not like these birds either.

                    Felix - remember the old maxim: 'IF IN DOUBT, DON'T'.

                    There's a lot of doubt about these badges, so my advice would be not to buy them.

                    Regards,

                    Robin.

                      Now I have made up my mind...!

                      I will pass on this eagle!

                      I also want to thank everybody, especially the moderators for contributing so much with the information to draw the right conclusions. Conclusion is that there is some concerns about the eagles and therefore the best is to pass. I think this was a quite educational thread for a lot of us.
                      It just shows how difficult it is to both tell from pictures and also to know what to look for when it comes to originality.

                      Once again, Thanks everybody who has participated

                      The search for original militaria goes on!

                      All the best,

                      Felix
