I don't comment on the caps themselves unless really obviously bad.

Ian, sorry if I implied anything else.

This visor is now in my collection.

    Thanks for the comments.

    Chris.

I once owned a black visor with the insignia almost welded to the cloth. I could see something strange inside the skull from looking through the eye sockets which turned out to be a crystallized spyder! Obviously been on the cap for a long time but how long? 20, 40 or 70 years?

        Cap

I believe that the blame for many replaced VISOR CAP insignia can be laid at the feet of..........the American GI. When faced with the prospect of carting around a bulky visor cap, or just ripping the skull and eagle off it, unfortunately many GIs probably opted for the latter. No such excuse for doing that to a sidecap or even an M-43, both of which can be squished into a pack fairly easily. I believe many of these type caps were stripped right before, or after capture. Ever see the photos of thousands of German prisoners, still in their uniforms, void of insignia? EXCELLENT point, SGStandard !! Why, thank you !!

          Yeah, good point!.

The other thing to consider is plain old human nature. Humans like to take things apart and pull things off stuff! Especially shiny metal things that would look on a denium jacket to impress the girls at school or sell for a few dollars to buy a comic mag etc etc etc.

Ask yourselves this. Where did all the skulls and eagles come from that are being sold separately these days and why all the snapped prongs?
