Hi guys. I recently acquired a spotted camo backpack from the vet who brought it home after WWII. I have searched what little reference I have on SS camo, and don't find a camo back pack. This has a tan base with medium green, dark and light brown spots. There are a variety of marks all over it, but not the rune type "SS" markings, just regular SS. The pack has dark gray/black straps. The straps are vertical. There is a long one in the center of the camo flap and two shorter ones, one on either side of the center strap. The straps all have horizontal leather loops that they pass through and the leater is attached to the fabric with silver rivets. The buckles are also silver (all the hardware may be aluminum. Ink markings include a large R. A styalized tall "F"then with "SS" and then what almost looks like a gull shape. There are markings that appear to say something like: REGIT UNDILL R 68. etc. Anyway, has anyone seen spotted camo SS packs? Does anyone have photos that I could use for comparison? Thanks so much.

Camo backpacks were not regulation items. Field made specimen do exist. They usually copy regulation patterns; the hardware could be easily salvaged from other backpacks etc...You shouldn't find any "SS" runes as markings, if you do that's a red flag.. If you can join the forum becoming an association member ($25 per year) you'll be able to post pictures and interact more...it's money well spent...
does the backpack you have resemble this one in construction? (photograph from Collector's Guild)Attached FilesLast edited by Krieg777; 05-01-2010, 11:17 PM.

I am afraid that without a picture the answers will not be plenty. However, as member Krieg777 pointed out, such items in camo material are unheard of, unless they were fieldmade. But then it is unlikely to find stamps, except the stamp was on that something that was turned into a backpack.

I once had a nice field made Rucksack that used a rather nice piece of early SSVT lateral camo!
I purchased it for the camo and not for the rucksack since it is impossible to figure out who or when the rucksack was made. An advanced collector purchased it off me. Since when do you see a nice chunk of SS-VT camo??? It was a sight to behold the colors were very vivid.
