Sorry for putting my 2 pennies in but:

by looking at the quality I cannot imagine someone´s calling this a fake or 50/50 chance.
This looks just too good to "qualify" as a good fake and since it obviously wasn´t that expensive where would be the mortgage for a faker or crook?

You are the only 'expert' to say this is definately correct ? None of the leaf tab collectors seem to be commenting ?

Care to comment on the plated copper ?

                  Detail

I like this little detail. The stem overlapping the other bullion strands like that.

                      Dammit RUHL13, I think it's a fake.
Send this "Gruppenfuhrer" tab to me so I can dispose of it..

The silver plated copper wire can be found on tabs from the late 20's and very early 30's. I think this tab has a good chance of being a pre-RZM original...

This may have been before they went to the aluminum bullion coatings, that eliminated the plating process.(an improvement in materials used in production)..they may have plated these early ones with copper first on materials used for the bullion look, then plated with silver, and the plate may have just worn off. I am also not convinced it is fake,as.. I also like the details. But as tensions mount, we will see who solves this riddle for sure, but it may be never solved, as the insignias, and uniforms changed, many of these may have been destroyed , or replaced with different rank insignia as they advanced up the ladder. I like it.

                            Jouneen,
Just to make it clear, there is no copper plating. The base metal "is" copper. The copper is then plated with silver. Both silver and aluminum bullion was used by the SS. I would say that most of the silver bullion options were replaced totally by aluminum after 1939.

Hey guys, still trying to learn on this one? Could someone that has an undisputed example please post it so newbies like me will know what to look for and what we are looking at is real? It seems that it's still 50/50 and just wanted to revive the thread hoping some more will chime in or post pics of an authentic example of this beautiful tab! Any help is greatly appreciated!!

                              Cheers,

Here is an early colonel collar tab in silver plated copper wire. Note the thick piping.
