    SS Pocketwatch!

    Hi,

This is Junghans pocket-watch/stopwatch with the SS emblem on the back. This pocket watch is up for sell and belonging to a European collector. What do you experts think about this one?!

Thank you all for your opinions regarding the "Fantasy WW2 rings". I appreciate your help.

    Regards,

The watch is real, the engraving much later. This is a classic tart up/ruin a perfectly fine antique item to get more money.

Is the person that this watch, and the rings, come from happen to be a jeweler? Is he honest with you?

            Watch

The big problem with these kind of embellished items, is that, other than the degree of workmanship, there is virtually no way to tell WHEN the embellishments were done. Even then, you're never sure. With the vast majority of embellished items probably being fake, it's a sucker's bet that most people will lose. Unless your granpappy handed it to you, you're probably going to be on the losing end. And even then.....................

Excellent phrase! Haven't heard that in awhile. I gotta put it back into my vocabulary.
              Thanks!

I am not sure this is post marked. It could be period...but would have to be proven. I have seen several ss pocket watches, and the less the embelishing the better. Interesting curio, but i wouldn't get too deep into it cashwise.

I don't think the stamps are period. Why would someone mark it like that? It looks to be a private purchase watch and if you wanted to add something that said you were in the SS there would be better ways than just slapping on 2 shoddily placed stamps. Why not have it engraved at the jewellers?

                        Magnificent find!

What probably most of you won´t know:

these type of pocket watches were given as a reward to the winners of the sport festivities being held on summersolstice - before the Himmler order came out in 1937 that from now on any prices been given by SS and police will only been awards made of ceramic or porcelain (was done to widespread and monopolize this niche for the products of Allach).

The letters "PV" are not meant to represent any short versions of the owner to whom the piece was awarded but a short form of the general dedication coming along with items like this:

                        "Persönliche Verarschung".

                          All good information. Thanks.
But with all due respect, it does not prove this is good, at best it may give it a better chance.
Anyone can be inspired by an original and "tart up" a period piece. Also, unless it was given in a camp, don't you think engraving would be a little finer? All just IMHO.

                            John,

                            I highly respect your thoughts.

Would you be so kind and go to www.leo.org (a free translation website - seriously good for translating any german documents a non-german speaking collector obtains!) and give the word Verarschung in the "German-English"-section to get the exact infos what I really meant.

Then it will be pretty obvious, I guess...;-)

                              Watch

This is interesting information, but can you provide photographic evidence of such a "PV" marked SS item other than this one? One thing that stands out, is the size of the "PV", which is almost as large as the "SS" emblem itself. It's placement even seems odd. The execution of the PV lettering seems rather poor also. This "PV" theory may be completely valid, but it'd be great to see other examples of this practice.
