SS Tunic & Breeches - Opinions Please???

My thing is Heer so I'm quite rusty when it comes to SS cloth. I've never seen this style tunic with pockets before, but then again I'm only going by what my books show me which is certainly limited.

Any thoughts from the SS experts here as to what type of tunic this is, and whether or not it's authentic?

    Thanks!

Hi all, thanks for the feedback. Aside from the "ribbed wool" the Johnny R mentioned, what else do you see about this (specifically) that sets it off as a fake. I'm trying to educate myself on what to look for.

Johnny, can you elaborate on what exactly "ribbed wool" is? Are you referring to how the fabric is woven?

                Thanks again!

                  tunic

What I suggest you do to "educate" your eyes to the good stuff, is to get yourself a re enactors tunic, like a Sturm( it will already be better than this "attempt") study it carefully, then spend time on this forum comparing items from this section ( you will find authentic items here from time to time) and items in the e stand section and bazar ( repros).

Talk with fellow members, buy excellent books, spend long nights studying this stuff. Also you will inevitably get "burned" buying fake items. This is a rite of passage you must go through! You cannot learn any other way. It is the way.

After a while you will re-act like Alex in Kubrick's Clockwork Orange: the mere sight of a tunic like the one posted above will produce an immediate, uncontrolable urge to nauseate all over your computer screen...I am sure some other member were already running for the Ly- -L and paper towels.

                  Please excuse my figurative demonstration.

Very well put, FESTUNGBREST. I have several Heer and Luftwaffe tunics, so as long as the fabric is similar with SS tunics I can just study them. I think one of the things I REALLY need to do (tell me if you agree this will help) is study the patterns. It seems when I come across an "SS tunic" they're is something about the pattern (e.g. pocket position, style, stitch, etc) that is off.

The wool has a very distinct raised surface and texture. It has a ribbed surface with lines running accross it in the weave. When you see it in hand you will recognize it. IMO it is an Intustrial fabric or surplus Military fabric from after the War. The linings in these also are typically the grey material in hte pants of this shiney olive material.
