You can perhaps eliminate Dietrich & Gille who were awarded higher grades and the other 4 highlighted who's awards weren't officially confirmed or received. So you're looking at 1 of 18 to try and fit the 8 yr service award and silver wound badge to.

All this assuming the thing is actually original of course ! The coincidences are certainly startling.

Or would it be a stock item? But I agree if he was taken prison in sept 44 I don't think he would have time ordering it...

Although most dont think so - in the summer of 1944 everything in germany was still working well, so were post and telephone. It was not impossible to order those.
ME in his shoes, being of course very proud of this rare award, would have ordered one straight away, to be sent to my home.

Anyway, IMO its his, as it came from his hometown. If not - well, at least there are no doubts its connected to another famous name, of those less than 20 we can circle in.

Why wear a ribbon to the KC if you could also wear the KC itself? (presuming this ribbon is worn wartime because of the swastikas, runes etc)

So the former owner could have made the stunning mistake and decided by himself how he wants to deal with his award - must have been an egoistic nut with a strong will and no brain not realizing and caring about wearing his award in a textbook style.

Well, so I guess this can only have been done by a Führer der Waffen-SS.

This has nothing to do with textbook or not. As far as I know SS members weren't exactly medail-shy and I don't think they were into wearing 'tinnies' like these... Are there any pictures showing ribbon-bars like these in wear?

I think as often with these things it will end as a matter of believe. Sure a high ranking "Meyer" engraved award coming from his home town will raise justified guesses that the award is related to the famous Kurt "Panzer" Meyer.

Unfortunately I think that this question can not be answered, especially since the question as to when it was engraved and by whom can also not be answered, possibly Kurt Meyer himself, but as I said I think we'll not find out.

If the awards are authentic then you have a nice set there anyways.

Because sometimes they could dress civilian. On leave for exampel.

Cant recall if he is wearing anything like this. Anybody have this foto at hands?
