SS units in Serbia?

I will be going to Serbia this summer so I was wondering if somebody can help me where was the fighting in Serbia that SS units were part of? I am interested where were the battle lines that SS was holding. My dad has a metal detector so I was thing about trying to find something. My grandfather always told me the stories that after the war the land around Danube was covered with German helmets and equipment when they were going on the other side of Danube. So if somebody knows where were those lines that will be great.

Can somebody at least point me in right direction where to do the search? On what Internet site? I try to do search myself and I did not got nowhere.
