    Cuff Title Explanation

Here is an image of a sturmfuhrer wearing the same cuff title and a brief explanation of it from Angolia's Cloth Insignia of the SS, 2nd Edition, 1989, Page 68.

Thanks! So maybe it is a lower grade of the silver type?lower office? This would seem plausible him having the blank tab too.

In my opinion that particular cufftitle indicated a "Referent" or specialist. These bands seem to disappear in 1934 when the full range of cufftitles with a series of black stripes on an aluminium was introduced. Given that Loeper was an Ehrenfuehrer rather than an active officer it is possible the band indicated that honorary rank but other photos of the title being worn, such as the one in Angolia, tend to make me think it was more functional.

The aluminium cuffband shown in the latest link with two black centre stripes is for a Department Head on the staff of the RFSS.

With this thread being resurrected I went back and had another search and from an insignia order of the RFSS dated 17th March, 1933 is the following section:

                g) Alle SS-Fuehrer, die nicht in Dienstellen sind (a la suite) und denen die Genehmigung zum Tragen des Dienstanzuges verliehen ist, tragen schwarzen Aermelstreifen mit silber-schwarzen Laengstreifen an den beide Raendern und einem Silberstreifen in der Mitte ohne jede weitere Bezeichnung.

                Roughly translated as:
All SS leaders, who are not in departments (a la suite) and have permission to wear the service uniform are to wear a black sleeveband with silver and black stripes at both edges and a silver stripe in the middle without any other inscription inscription.

Thanks for that info, Derek. I'd love to see a good pic of a surviving example!
