    Recent Buy

In keeping with the theme of posting recent purchases for purposes of learning and sharing our hobby, find attached an early set of Allgemeine SS Insignia.

Actually, I've had these for a couple of years now, but are recent to being posted on the forum.

As you can see, the silver wash application to the front of the cap skull is still in pretty good shape.

    Enjoy the pic.

I would've sworn that skull is off a heer panzer tab and the eagle looks like the late 70's cheap ally fake but with squared off pins ?? No offense intended..merely an observation.

      Cheers,Ian Hulley.

Yes Robin, there is four prongs on the skull. The skull is definitely not Panzer - too large. Please let me know what you think.

Also, the picture is not a very good quality - detail much better when held in hand, as well as Silver wash to front

Regarding the eagle, yes it is somewhat plyable aka softer alloy. I thought the eariler cap eagles were made of softer alloys i.e. Aluminium.

I would apprceiate your comments very much Robin, as well as any others

        thanks,

        Al

            Better pic

Here's a clearer pic of the cap skull and eagle along side a couple of Panzer tabs for size refernce.

As soon as the batteries on my digital Camera re-charges, I'll post some better pics of the reverse.

David has posted an execellent ques., has any other forum members seen a similar skull?

            All comments welcomed,

            thanks,

OK, digital camera batteries all charged up.

              pic of reverse,

I'm not a materials expert when it comes to third reich items, but by observation of the reverse, is this material a brass or tombak, or kreigsmetall?

              thanks, Al

                  Al,

nothing wrong with that TK, I have seen that pin assemble before on original items, never yet seen it on a fake (YET).

                  cheers,

                  Gary

Hi Gary, thanks for looking and once again for providing your insightful comments.

Gary, or other forum members, do you have a pic of a TK (prefarably the early style) in your files with the four prongs, that you could post on the forum?

I would be very interested in seeing the comparison?

                    thanks,

                    Al

most of those eagles were struck in silver, I believe, or at least that is my understanding. Mine is anyway, is it marked at all?

If it's all original, then that would be a nice set of insignia

                        Hi Brig:

No, there are no markings on any of the insignia.

You probably noticed that the Pz skulls that I posted above as a reference for size to compare with the TK, are the same Pz skulls that I just posted on the "Uniform" forum.

Back to the question of the TK, based on the reverse pic of the TK i.e. the yellow-brownish color, I think the base materal is a brass or other from of Kreigsmetall. Fairly rigid when finger pressure is applied.

                          al,

here is a photo of a cypher with double pins, I cannot remember if the few tk's I have have double pins I do not think so, but I have seen that set up before

                          cheers

                            Gary,

Thanks for posting the pic of the cypher with the double pins. That is extermely similar to the set-up of the pins on my TK (I had spread them apart for purposes of examination).

                            cheers,

                            Al

                              Al.

Yes. I agree. The skull and eagle are both OK. Early party eagles in plated brass or nickel often had no markings and an 'uneven' swastika. The latter is actually a good sign in early pre-RZM badges. The 4 prongs is something I have never seen on a skull before, but from the close-up shots I've no doubt that the skull is original. There were many different variations.

                              Cheers.

                              Robin.
