SS pictures opinion

Hello,

I'm actually a bit concerned by this kind of pictures; I'm pretty sure I saw it in the past.
I know pictures were made in several copies, but, I don't know, I'm not convinced by this one.

Looks to me like there's a new kind of high end fake pictures around ebay.

Curious to know what you think about this.

In my opinion there's a lot of professionally done reprinting on eBay both in US and Germany. If you pay attention all this attractive pictures are mostly postcard size studio portraits. Small snapshots taken in the field are more likely to be real, large portraits demand more money therefore are most likely to be reproduced on old stock photographic paper.
I generally stay away from eBay, too much cr@p.

Don't like it. Did you use the "click to enlarge" button? It's a vey large file and you can see detail, and it looks very awful close-up including a large thumb print. All of that doesn't make it bad, but it makes me be super-duper wary of a probable fraud there.

I'm actually deep into pictures, so I usually know what I have or not to buy, but lately I agree with you as I saw too many dubious items, and most of them were very professional reprints with sharp details as they would be made with Leikas...

I prefer to save money up and buy unquestionable items from reputable sources, the times of "snatching a deal" on eBay are long gone, buy less and sleep more and better at night.

I don't agree on this, I got superb and ultra rare stuff from ebay, sometimes for bargain, and anyway reputable sources sell fakes as well...

It's not ebay the problem, but the high end fakes at very high resolution that are floading the market.

Most likely a reprint, (thumb print) keep in mind the size of this photo, 55mm x 88mm, looking at enlarged is just that enlarged.

Based on this one photo it's hard to say if it is an orignal of not.
