      Jorn is 100% correct.

Your cufftitle is a repro, it's design is based on the 1st type Freikorps Danmark cufftitle with gothic lettering. This 1st type, when original, was manufactured in Denmark on a flimsy naval ribbon band and did not have any aluminium borders or RZM tags.

      Sorry

        Hi Mark;

Even if an example such as yours were made to standard German specs for hand embroidered officers bands, this one would fail miserably based on the poor quality of the letter structure.
        Best regards,

        Tony

          Thanks a lot guy’s,

I will return it right away and take back the buckles I traded it for but I have to admit I am very surprised. It really looks old and a knowable Belgian collector told me it was OK. Then again, I have to admit I have NO experience with cuff titles. The six I have in my collection all come first hand from veterans. I guess I have to stick with the belt buckles!!! At least there I know what I’m talking about!!!

I send a picture of the back for the records.

Noted your post on another forum informing you were offered +EUR 3,500 by several dealers at the SOS show for the above-mentioned hand-embroidered cufftitle. In my opinion a repro is a repro and will always remain a repro no matter how much somebody wants to pay!!

The (Danish manufactured) 1st type gothic lettering "Freikorps Danmark" cufftitle was only used for a short period in 1942, they were all identical = machine-woven and are very rare. They were soon replaced by the standard (German made) RZM "Freikorps Danmark" cufftitle with latin script.

For comparison purposes see the attched.

Sorry if you feel the advice given earlier by the "experts" on this forum was wrong - believe me the advice given was 100% correct. My own judgement is based on +30 years collecting of Danish volunteer material. Good luck with your collecting ....

Thank you for your input Prorege, You might be right or you might be wrong but at least you have the courage of defending your opinion. I was indeed offered the (approximate) above mentioned $$ by two dealers and three collectors. Three of these people being recognised “top” collectors or “top” dealers with their personal stuff illustrating most of the actual reference books or even in their own books. They all came back on the “ Fake” verdict after having the item in there hands. Also, the original (verifiable) provenance of this item played a decisive role in their change of opinion. You of course had only the picture to base your opinion on.

              Anyway, this is past time.

As I mentioned in a previous post, when you asked for advice, the Schalburg cufftitle and collar tab are both 100% original.

By coincidence the Schalburg cufftitle was actually made on the same factory (in Copenhagen, Denmark) that produced the original gothic Freikorps Danmark cufftitles......

Here is the sample board which was kept by an ex-worker from the factory. You will notice the Freikorps Danmark cufftitle is of the flat machine-embroidered type, not hand embroidered - and no aluminium edges on the cufftitle.

Lots of pictures have survived from the war showing the gothic Freikorps Danmark cufftitle in wear - none of the pictures show a hand-embroidered type (and no aluminium edges) only the standard type as shown on the attached picture.

Having read the relevant threads here and on where this is mentioned on GD I agree with Soren,Jorn and Tony one i would not want to add to my collection.

Marc I would though like to know what was said as to why this cuff title is thought to be an original example
                    cheers,

The info on this forum regarding the item was respected by me Gary, Just that except the few people who where giving there opinion on the item publicly on this forum, there where a lot of others who privately said the contrary and where prepared to buy the item. Very confusing for me as we are talking about long time collectors and dealers from witch many of them has stuff from their collection in books and some even made the books!!
