Portrait SS-officer with TWO runes-Collar tabs

    Hello fellows,

can you tell me something about this photo?
Why does the man wear two collar tabs with runes?

    Never saw this before.

    Thanks in advance!

    Dual Runes Collar Insignia.

This was a practice of the VT & Waffen-SS. "From October 1939 – May 1940, collar rank was reintroduced and dual insignia was authorized. After May 1940, dual collar rank was forbidden, but a number of personnel continued its use until late in the war." (Ref: Angolia’s Cloth Insignia of the SS, 2nd Edition, 1989, Page 275.)

Here are additional images of dual runes collar insignia being worn.

Never seen it before either. If the photo didn't look so genuine , I'd think it was a modern movie still.... but it is obviously 1939- early 1940's.
Anything on back. Did special guards somewhere maybe have these double?

Oh, it's just answered previously by C betz! thanks, that was fast!

Thank you very much for your help Charles!!

        @John
        The photo is 100% wartime.
The man you see here was awarded with the knights cross later.
On the back there is a date: 1.1.1940

        Best regards,

        Joerg

P.S.: Did you notice the eagle on the visor cap?

          .........
I could tell it was good/real, but it was so unusual to me, it looked like something a costume person in Hollywood got wrong! lol!
But while I was typing out my first post, C betz came up with the photos.

anyway, it is a very nice and rare card. do you own it?

          Best,
          John Pen.

You're making an ar$e of yourself mate, you need to do some reading and research rather than running your post count up trying to look a cool dude.

The mirrored runes and totenkopf tabs were dropped because of confusions caused by the pull-over smocks which hid the straps and any other distinguishing rank markings.

                  Nice (and rare) image.

There's a photo of Gille wearing a similar pair of tabs.

The cap is very nice. The band looks like black wool to me, rather than velvet, and its color piped!

Not trying to butt into your thread but here is another on the same subject.

I wouldn't discount the idea of it being a Heer visor with the TK added . . . I've been diagnosed with color-blindness when it comes to black-and-white photography, but to me, the band could almost be dark green wool. Who knows?

I have numerous examples of the same (mirror tabs) some of which I've already published in books with others to follow. Many seem to be adjutants at the time or other staff posts as a hint of designation or use.

                              Hello Ian Hulley,

O.k., I suppose your right that I made an arse of myself by throwing my 2 cents in on this one. But oh well.

You are wrong though about me answering to look cool though. If I were worried about being cool, I would never post anything for fear of being wrong.

Not sure if running my numbers up is a big deal to me, I gotta think about that one.

I am doing my studying here. Now I know all I need to know about the double runes. Do you really have a problem with me studying here?

Should us novices just not post anything? Are we in the way of the "Cool Guys" with all the knowledge?

P.s. Ian, if you were just trying to help. Thanks! Jp
