The diary looks very good.....what's inside?
Don't know about the patch other than it's been washed......
Others can tell you more about that.

The patch I have no idea about( some thing I would pass on if it were offered to me.).But the diary looks ok to me, as I have one like it,is it complete,my example has the picture of Himmler missing otherwise complete with fold out map at the back.

The diary is ok, the patch looks as though it is put together well, and all in proportion, I was thinking maybe a cut down part of a car pennant?

          Just a thought

It's a cut from a car pennant IMHO

                        I love that diary.
.......I can hear my other books calling out for it.

........about the patch, now seeing the latest pic of it, I have to agree with the others that it is WWII made. In the pic you can see that it made of fine material and somewhat transparent, in both the white and black fields. So with this new info, I (imho) can deduct that it was made by a highly skilled and well practiced craftsperson and technical combination that required the runes to be cut out of the black cloth and then have the white cloth sewn into the empty space.
This would not be not easy and would require much repitition to have such a nice end product. Don't let the "gathering" or "wrinkles" throw you off, that was caused by "shrinkage" due to some one, probably recently, washing it.
To me, it is highly unlikely that anyone would go through all of this trouble to make this scrawny little piece for profit, they would surely have gone to a much grander scale. That is my reasoning.

Now that we have helped fakers make a better fake,....any more quwstions?
P.s. when I say "shrinkage" it's kinda like George Castanza.
