              looks a little East German to me, but having never held an era SS visor, my opinion is just that-opinion

                It looks ok to me; I have no idea about the insignia though.

                  Can you post some more detailed pix of the inside of the sweatband, underside of the visor, cap interior, etc?
                  Also, what kind of material is the cap lined with? Usually, there is a sweat diamond or the remenants thereof. All the stitching should be hand sewn.
                  I don't claim to be an expert (None of us do), but some more detailed pictures would help. Perhaps some other forum folks who have handled a lot of SS lids could take a crack at this one.

                    I'd really like to handle this one, but just some thoughts based on
                    these pics;

                    On the positive side,

                    The shape of the cap is very crisp and the pale grey doeskin and
                    short-looking nap of the mohair band seem promising. The lack of
                    sweatshield doesn't raise any alarms and can even be a plus in this
                    type of cap. Lining and sweatband look just fine.

                    On the negative side,

                    The underside of the visor raises some red flags. I don't really like
                    the color and it appears to be smooth, as few originals are, but so
                    many fakes are.

                    As for the insignia, the eagle is very doubtful, but if those are
                    edge-tabs that I see on the skull then IMO it's a definite fake.
                    If it is original to the cap, then I would pass on the whole thing
                    without a second thought.
