It does not take a rocket scientist to create fake ageing.
Dip it in lemon juice and bury it for a year or two.
I was in Egypt last time 1996 and they explained how they aged fake roman coins to sell to naive tourists.

I knew there would be an explanation. Silly me.

Peter, you really should reread the other thread. The issue of fake aging has already been discussed at great length; it is nothing new. The composite photo I showed above (with a fake ID disk displaying similar "aging") is from that thread.

As we all know that aging can be convincingly faked, most seasoned collectors with a reasonable degree of skepticism demand more than realistic-looking age and a good story provided by someone who likely has an ulterior profit motive before they will accept a new variation as authentic.

Absolutely right. These guys really went to extreme great lengths to age the 3 prong Assmann....so much so they got it to match a "proven" ground dug EXACTLY! I don't know why they would do that to a 3 prong Assmann, but they did, right?? I agree! 100%

It also matches a faked ID disk exactly (shown in this thread). If they could do it to the ID disk they could do it to a skull with no greater difficulty. Quit acting like this is some sort of impossibility.

Brad, I know absolutely nothing about ID discs, ZERO. I will take your word on the fact that it is fake as you indicate. I am sure if this type of disc did exist, "they" have compared it to a known original / originals and have determined it to be an artificially aged reproduction.

Just a general question. Was there ever an SS dogtag that was camp specific? Would that not have been a contrivention of the secrecy the SS were trying to maintain.

I believe you'll find that the SS collector's motto is actually 'Everything purportedly to be SS should be assumed to be fake until proven otherwise'. And I firmly believe that's the way it should always be.

You may also add the extra ... 'especially if it's coming from Eastern Europe' because the Baltic countries do seem to have a thriving industry reproducing all things IIIrd Reich and peddling them as original to the hard of thinking.

                              I presume you'd like to disagree ?
