      Cap Badges....

It will be very differcult for anyone to give an opinion I should imagine without seeing the backs of both items. To be honest the detail looks a bit weak on these cap badges compared with the ones on my cap. I also thought " not a pair either " not for me. David

I guess that the head of the eagle is not so great, so...

Not at all David. They're obvious fakes from the front alone.

              Hi,

While the eagle is certainly a fake, I believe that the skull on the hat,
is an original and was made from the earlier M1/52 die, which looked like that, (not as good as the later, more commonly seen M1/52 skull).
              Thanks! Chris

Thanks so much for your opinions! I did have my suspicion about the eagle because the detail is just not what I expect. The skull looks similar to my other RZM 52 marked skulls so I figured it was most likely OK. The collector bought the hat eons ago without a eagle and replaced it with one he bought at a show.

If someone could comment on the tab I posted in the second set of pictures I would appreciate it. It feels OK to me and came from a decent source but then again I have never seen one with the backing covered up.

I will not knowingly post anything on my web site that is not original. So, Thank You!!

                Best Wishes,

That M1/52 skull should have a slash through the "Z" in the "RZM",
(unlike the more common style M1/52 skulls).
                    Thanks! Chris

                        Hi guys,

I did a search for M1/52 marked skulls and found this thread. The pics are no longer up. There is a post by Chris:
That M1/52 skull should have a slash through the "Z" in the "RZM"
Is this the MM you mean? Can you tell me any info about when these were made and what they should look like in regards to materials, finish, etc?

                        Thanks,
                        Tim

                          Hi Tim!

That is exactly what I was talking about. That one looks like an original.
Is there any way that you could post more pictures of the entire front and back? It is my understanding that these skulls were made very early in 1935.
I think all of the M1/52 skulls that have the slash through the Z, would be made of either, silver plated bronze/brass alloys, or nickel-silver.
                          Hope this helps! Chris

                            Hi Chris,

Here's the front and back. So was this the first of the new 1935 style? I take it that makes this one rarer than the later ones? Any idea what these are going for today?

                            Thanks for the help.

                              Hi Tim! Nice looking skull.
These are similar to the ones with the RZM 52 on the lower jaw, except they are a little later. The first skulls of this design were made in 1934.
Yes, the ones like yours are rarer than the later M1/52 skulls,
(without the slash), because they didn't make as many like yours.
I think the value would still be pretty close with the others,
($300.00--$350.00). However, that would depend on how much someone wanted to pay for it. The earliest 1934 Deschler skulls, (Marked "RZM D.&S.M. Ges. Gesch."), would probably bring the most, as they are extremely rare.
Yours would probably be a late 1935 piece.
                              Hope this helps! Chris
