    It's an original tab.

I have issues with this skull too. I don't believe it's authentic. Got to go with the doctor on this one.

What do you see that you don't like?

Just compare it to a known original and you'll see the differences. I'm sure that you can use the search function and find a good one on here. I've posted a couple over the years, plus there are several people who get into collecting TK collar tabs.

Plus I think that Gordon has put up a bunch of his, as well as Hohenstaufen.

People have a tendency to hold up the very best example of a skull they've seen as the standard. Not all TR hand embroidery is aesthetically perfect, and I think the skull tab shown falls well within the range of original period work...

I always find it suspicious when the best part of a tag is gone ....How does the original white backing the tab is built on in a undisputed original compare to the one shown? The ones on the link are only the fronts? Can a back be shown to compare? Are the backs notshown to keep the fakers from knowing, or are they top secret? whats up with that, as i always show everything, should i be holding back to only show fronts of everything I ever post? thanks this is not meant sarcasticly, but seriously.

Here are two tabs that are 100% original. One is uniform removed, the other unissued. Hope this helps in regard to comparisson.

                    Regards,
                    Dave.

The Tabs in Post 24 and 25 are very nice.

The last two tabs are very nice, and thanks for showing them. On others, the work is not as well executed, or the bullion has shifted with wear or template deteroriation. I've owned a number of these over the years, and this piece compares very favorable with them.

Don't let the fable of German workmanship suck you in. Officers sleeve eagles, bullion TK tabs, and certainly sleeve diamonds all were subjected to the same "stringent" quality standards, yet vary considerably. This collar tab is well within standards, and I'm frankly puzzled why such an obviously original tab is being challenged.

                            Hi Dave,
I just happened upon this thread. That "long bone" 308 on the right is just stunning! It looks to be in perfect shape.

Just look at that mouth full of teeth!
