    Stavelot

I obtained these insignia from a vet's relative. They were kept in an envelope sent from Europe during the war.I don't think that the insignia was mailed in the envelope as it is letter size. On the back of the envelope the vet wrote,Stavelot. Were SS captured at Stavelot? What would be the connection?
    Thank you.

Stavelot is a village in Belgium where the SS executed 100 some civilians for "aiding the US soldiers" during the battle of the Bulge.

I haven't the expertiseto comment on the items, but as Johnny said, Stavelot figured prominently during the advance of Kampfgruppe Peiper during the Ardennes Offensive. It was the scene of fierce fighting between a number of elements of the 1st SS Panzer Division and units of primarily the US 30th Division.

                  questions

what are the dimensions of the tabs please length width. I am no expert, I am trying to learn. Is there something about the distance between the runes themselves, and does the litze look 'right'?

I will try to get a better pic of the insignia. I have an older model camera so great pics are hard with insignia.

I like the tabs and the shoulder boards. Officer eagles aren't my thing.

                          Additional pics

Tabs and eagle. Eagle is two tone flat alum. body, wreath, outer wing. Silver alum. wings. Raised body. Slightly curved to indicate it was once on a sleeve. Pic doesn't do it justice.
