you would be surprised at what is cost's to make these badges, for example the multitude of re strike British cap badges, there is a shop I know that sells these @ £1.00-£2.00 each, the England awake is more aimed at the bikers market and have been around donkeys years initially in white metal, but looking at the one in the auction in brass as well
I do not think the seller really knows its probably something he has bought and been told the story, as he has a 100% feedback (which would be stupid to loose over Bad crap) and most of his other items are British and seem 100%,
