    S.S. tab question

I was asked the question.....Is there any way to date or determine the maker of a blank rank tab?

To my knowledge, the answer is no. Not unless the tab has an RZM tag to the reverse. And even then it would be difficult to date.

Any of the forum members have any other response?

Could the backing material be referenced like those common to "Dachau" tabs?
      or are they a variety?

The glue used by each manufacturer to stiffen the buckram backing was a proprietary blend, which was unique to that manufacturer. Each has its own distinct taste. You should lick the buckram on this one and then lick the buckram on each of your tabs with RZM tags until you find a match.

Despite reactions above, I find it an interesting question.
How to date these and look out for (war-post war reproduction), but even when are these blank black tabs SS? I noticed more organisations used these during ww2...

What would be the difference between the SS blank tabs and the blank black tabs used by the RAD?

I believe the RAD tabs are a bit slimmer and longer,

but indeed the question stays the same: when is it SS (and even important sold as such!) or from another organisation?
I mean have you ever seen a black blank rank tab for sale marked as...(fill in; all but SS)

I have too search my reference books which org. used plain blank tabs, but I believe the TENO did?

blank black tabs are worn by:

                    -RAD arbeitsmann
-WLS werkluftschutz-Mann (Defending The Reich p.361)
                    -TN/police-Anwarter 1943-1945 (DTR p.507)
