    skull question

    Hi there,

    A question for the insigne-experts:

was the zinc Assman-skull (marked Ges,gesch.) silver washed or silver painted or was it plain zinc?

they're was no painted version, the most common was plain zink, with or without silver wash. (The late war skull variant with 3 prongs). Or the variant with the flat prongs, you had them in aluminium and also brass.

      Huh?

I am not sure I fully understood what you said, but, if I did, I disagree with it on a couple counts.

Can you just list the variants you believe are original?

        1) the Ges.Gesch skull with the round prongs: zink (silver wash)
        2) the Ges.Gesch skull with the flat prongs in aluminium also brass
        3) Unmarked Assmann
        4) 3-pronged Assmann (late war type) I know this one is controversial here but not for me, I found one grounddug two years ago myself. Unfortunately It was just it's half.

I think I have them all

Are you saying that there was an original Assmann TK made of brass?

Also, you only listed a finsih on the Ges. Gesch. zinc skull. Are you suggesting that the unmarked zink skull was produced unfinished? That is the way it sounds in this and your previous post.

This is very interesting...skulls 1 & 5 I've encountered before, skull 2 I've seen once before, but skull 3, if it is silvered brass (which it could be from the pic) is a first for me...can we see it after cleaning? Skull 4, of course, is the controversial 3 prong...

Yes, the zink ges.gesch. skulls were painted, (at least, sometimes).
I've posted pics of the ges.gesch. skull in brass and CupAl several before in previous threads.

                              Best,

                              Chris
