I know nothing about this but I know there was a German shipping line that used pretty much the identical insignia as the LAH. So just get a few good experts onto this otherwise you will end up with a shipping lines puch bowl!

may still have value as, at least in the US, maritime collectibles have a big following.

            - What for to argue, denying obvious and building the assumptions? If it
is possible to find out directly from "owner"...

            - Come on an official site of HAPAG-Lloyd
(http://www.hapag-lloyd.com/en/home.html), for the beginning get acquainted
with a history of HAPAG. Is written detailed on years. It will give you food
            for reflections.

            - Then, if not it is clear, can go on page with contacts and write the
questions (Only do not ask about LAH, SS - differently simply will not
answer . 99,999 % - will not answer to you. But if you write the letter
from the address of a solid research society, with the reference to his
resources - you will readdress to the man, which will write, that the emblem
HAPAG was used on all accessories, flags of the company and likewise since
1858, before replacement on new emblem of HAPAG-LLOYD. The abbreviation
"HAL" HAPAG never was used and the shown emblem (monogramme) to HAPAG of any
            relation has no...

                - On this site sell sea memorablia, therefore want that it was HAPAG (though
it would be more logical Holland America Line . The mistake LAH-HAL
occurs from article of one fan sea memorablia, which very much would like,
that monogramme belonged to the navigable company!
By the way - all LAH on http: // www.luxurylinerrow.com/ quickly have
                bought...
HAPAG NEVER used an abbreviation HAL! Monogramme LAH was used only by
Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler! Photos with use monogrammes - hundred!

So far as I can tell, there are only two official HAPAG logos - the stylized "anchor" and the "pentagram" both with the letters HAPAG.

I've sent off an email to HAPAG-Lloyd asking about the history of the HAPAG logos.

I've also sent an email to Paul Gjenvick at Gjenvick-Gjønvik Group who specializes in Steamship memorabilia and has access to quite an amount of HAPAG period documents.

If these HAL/ LAH logos are actually SS LAH logos, where are the period photos showing them in use? There are a lot of SS photo collectors on this site so someone must have one somewhere......

HAPAG-LLoys exists from 1970! So it is impossible to have a HAL shipping company monogram from 1930 - 1940. There was Norddeutscher Lloyd and there was HAPAG, two separate, independent shipping companies. These merged as late as 1970 into Hapag-Lloyd.

Now, HAL may be Hamburg-America Line or Hamburg-Amerika Linie. This is actually HAPAG, it was called that way sometimes. So, the HAL monogram may come from the Europe-America line ships of HAPAG, but the L is from Line/Linie, Lloyd is not related!
