One of the last few cutoffs to post...The story on this is that it came from another collector who knew I liked cut-offs. Unfortunately he didn't particularly care for them himself so he removed it from the collar piece. Luckily he kept the uniform collar. From the late 70's and opinions welcome. Dexter

Very painful opinions since I believe Peter and Arran to be very knowledgeable. I can only confirm that I've had this from the late 70's and the type of faking going on at that time was humorous not dangerous. Back then cut-offs were lower priced than unissued examples. I don't remember paying more than $50 for any cut offs I've posted in the past weeks including this piece. I guess I should feel lucky that I didn't take a big hit.
It's hard to imagine that someone took some type of collar, similar to a german tunic that was in great condition [hence the clean unworn condition of the material under the tab] apply a bogus tab and then artificially age the piece to then sell it for what I paid for it. Either a piece conforms to known originals or known fakes and this piece seems to be the latter. OK, I think I'm done whining now, is it a bad time to post those 5 unissued SS ID cards? Dexter

Tab
Yes - a better pic of the BACK of the tab without flash would also help. All material frays, but I don't like the way the rune embroidery is frayed. Modern thread is inferior to that which was used by the Germans during this period. It frays more like what you see in the photo. Same goes for the way peaked cap piping on original caps frays very little, even on very worn caps.

Day time photos as requested. If not good enough let me know and I'll find another camera. The white cloth is stiff and under it is a second stiff piece of cloth but black. The salty rzm tab is side by side for comparison. If the SS3 should match the rzm then I'm in trouble. Thanks again for your opinions. Dexter
