    W-SS stamp on Magazine pouch

I would appreciate some comments on this stamp, found on the inside of a mp34 pouch. Does anybody have any "real" ink stamps to compare?!
Real or did they exist at all?

    Thanks

To me, stencils like this are a 'red flag' that the artifact is a fake; however, sometimes stencils like this are used on totally original artifacts to associate them with the SS and thereby allow the seller to jack up the price of an ordinary piece of field gear. I've seen many "Y" straps and other pieces of leather marked with runes and Totenkopfs just to triple the price.

      Bob,
I understand that it most likely is faked, as it is seen with WaA stams etc. But are there even something like genuine ink stamps? Or were they never used? Lets say Austrian (used/second hand) material like this mp34 pouch were used by the german troops i.e. W-SS, how would it be then be stamped?

        Hello Coastaldefence!

The ink stamps did exist on SS equipment. There is a photo of ink stamp from inside of M98 pouch that was ground dug over here several years ago by another forum member. This one is an unit stamp and it says K.K.2 SS T St. Brandenburg. This is the only original ink stamping I have ever encountered on SS equipment. I agree with Bob in the point that fakers putting those stamps on ordinary items to jack up a price and your pouch appears to be stamped this way, I have never seen any original stamping like yours at least.

            Hi Guys,
Thank you very much for the stamp pictures!
Fake stamping belongs to the list of death sins

anyway, the pouch itself seems original, with WaA stamped magazines.

            best

I aggree. It is just so easy to do for the fakers. I read somewhere (I think Lumsden (?) but am not sure) that it can take fakers about 5-10 minutes to make a stamp from scratch. Eastern European fakers (please, no offense to any of us good collectors) are known for stamping. Fake stamps are also easily bought online, some google-ing should you a wealth of them. Smear it when its still wet, and the text does not even have to match the piece! I made the mistake of buying a stamped piece once, and I will always regret it. It turns out the same stamp surfaced on another different SS hat (fake). I now generally stay away from such pieces unless they are free.

              Hope this helps...
