Ernst Barkmann Died June 26 2009

Not sure if I should post this here or on the "achtung panzer" forum.

I saw on wikipedia that Ernst Barkmann has died on june 26th of 2009, just two months from his 90th birthday.

When I tried a search here on the forum, I didn't see anything relating to his recent death.

Is this sad news true ? Has anyone heard more about it ?
The latest isue of Das Ritterkreuz isn't published yet, normally they publish the official announcement of the death of a KC bearer .

I met him on several occasions and I always enjoyed talking with him.
Another historic soldier has been called back to the big army.

Interested in all E. Reitz Uniformwerke items.

    How sad!
    May he rest in peace!
I never got in touch with him. How I regret that.

Out of curiousity, did Barkmann's obituary make it into any German papers?

Apparently, since the ribbons left by veterans groups at his grave were stolen the same day as the funeral. I'm sure they'll appear in a classified or dealer site as similar ones often do.

Stealing from a grave is a really sick thing to do - some people would sell their own mother for a profit.

I hope he rests in peace.

Little by little, this war goes into "dead history". Soon there will be noone to tell his own experience. Rest in Peace!
