I would appreciate opinion about this jewish star

A good friend of mine came up with this jewish star.
He got it from a friend (who is not a collector at all) and he got it from his father who had it since the war.

Myself I don't like it (especially the border and the backside)but they swear it is original. But at the other hand I am not an expert in this field so you never know...

I would appreciate your opinions. If it is original maybe I can make a good deal.

    Thanks

The back side it not as bright as on the picture. It is more beige than white.

I can tell you that I did hold several orginals in my hands.

Seen several originals in collections, also given by the former jewish owner who handed over documents, photos and a star.

To start with the fabric which is wrong.

Never seen such borders before........and it wasn't allowed to make such borders / to change the look of the star.

Beige ? should be yellow as that was the original colour, but ofcourse that can fade lighten over all those years, but beige : no.

Note that in The Netherlands the jews had to buy those stars, first publications mention three stars to buy.
Regulations for wearing included, cut the star on the ----- (dotted line) / fold the outerpart and stitch it on clothing.

It was not allowed to make those stars themselves.

So don't speak of private made stars or something like that.

I can only say that I don't like the shown version at all.

                yours friendly

The border looks like it is polyester.

Now I have to tell my friend. He will not be happy but that's the way it is.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

                      Hello Marcel,

I think this is repro too. I've about 10 original's at home, and this one does not match any of them.

This one does look like a known fake model, i've seen these with WaA stamps on it. The border is not making it any better.

                      Regards Jim

Almost all stars out there are repros and making as well and selling this stuff is a (very sad) cottage industry. In my life I have only seen a handful I believe to be real outside of museums.

There are books written on this:

whats really funny is that on the above link about fake vs real items,, the hex order service badges they claim are authentic are really fakes !

Still in all a pretty good site...
