Sweatband has been repaired, I believe period done. But I haven't seen many period repairs myself. Cap came from a old timer I know and I have no reason to doubt his story of the caps origin.

I like it. I prefer the older private purchase lables too! Would be a good idea to put a nice matching patina insignias if at all possible

Perhaps before deciding to replace insignia, carefully examine the inside to see if there is evidence of other holes where OTHER insignia may have been. Also look for other "prong-marks" on the lining. Photographic evidence shows that it was not that uncommon for the SS to wear non-SS eagles. IMPORTANT: If you DO decide to replace the eagle, I think the early, smaller SS/SA type would be more appropriate for the cap, and would be considerably less expensive. Especially with the nice early skull. (Of course, ANY combination of the 2 styles of skulls and 2 styles of eagles was worn together. It would be a shame, however to disturb an original cap. Like they say, "Don't be THAT GUY !!"
