    SS Astray

    I dont know if it this the right forum???

    But a friend of mine, got this astray.
    The eagle´s head is made of whale tooth.

    It got the engraving "Regimentskommandant Reif Juleaften (xmas eve) 1944 from SS regiment Norw.
    Eagle is marked MeuM.

    Question.
    Does anyone know anythin about "Reif" or the Astray???

    Sorry tihs is the only picture I got.

    Any comments are velcome.

    VERY interesting piece. You will need to show closeups of the inscription. Other photos of the whole thing would be great too. It's usually impossible to tell WHEN the inscriptions on items were made. Many, if not most "SS" inscribed personal items are original period items that are post-war embellished. Photos of the inscription would at least give clues to it being possibly period inscribed.

          This piece, without doubt, originates from the SSuper SSecretive North Arktik ESSkimo Legion, who were entitled to wear the extremely rare "KoldAssHell" Cufftitle.

          A keeper if I ever saw one....

                as some of the answers may seem a bit mean-spirited and at your expense, I just want to explain that they are alluding to the "SS pipe" thread where many members are very (VERY )certain these are just out and out obvious fakes...or even period pieces but with no true SS relationship except that some one now carved an SS in...or is claiming some connection--and then found on ebay,etc.
                So no hard feelings.

                          The sad truth is that there are SO many fakes out there, people automatically assume items like this are fake. The joke would be on all of us if it were actually authentic. But, of course, there is virtually no way to ever tell. I always get the feeling that some of these bizarre items are just odd enough to be real. Having enough confidence in such items to invest in them is a different story.
