    What are these?

Ive been wondering what these skinny white half cuff strips are over SS cufftitles Ive seen in several pics.. Himmler has one on in this photo over his high leader honor cufftitle, what are these in conjunction with the cuff? sorry about photo quality but its clear enough,.What are they?

This is a case in which Himmler has tucked a piece of white paper or card of some sort into his cuff. I've seen this done many times by those who had turned-up cuffs...

      Cuff Title "Stripes"

The "stripes" denote hauptampt, amt or section assignment. Angolia's Cloth Insignia of the SS (2nd edition, 1989, pages 67-79) gives a brief breakdown of the cuff titles; Hauptabteilungsleiter, Abteilungsleiter, and wear by sub-sections chiefs on the staff of the RF-SS and the three main branches. However, the explanation does not give the reason of the stripes position, the number included, or any sort of reasoning behind this designation type of insignia.

Also included is a picture (Page 68) of an Unterstrurmfuhrer with three white stripes designation on black band. Not to be left out and be remiss if I did, there is also an image of von Ribbentrop (page 79) wearing the black tunic and a sleeve band similar to Himmler's but having a broken (spaced) black stripe worn in the center of the cuff band.

It may be a card in the cuff but IVE CERTAINLY SEEN other shots with a half stripe type designation over teh cufftitle.

          "Half -Stripe Borders"

Arran's post is correct. Post your other images of other "half-stripe border" cuff titles being worn. You will find on close examination, that Arran's answer applies to these as well. What appears as "half-stripe" cuff titles are in reality, the lower stripe being obscured from view. The SS-Post Schutz is the only SS cuff title to my knowledge, not to have borders being woven on to, or applied as in the RZM style.

Is it possible that they are similar to the cuff stripes on SA uniforms? These may denote what year the member joined the party. See "A Historical Prospective of the SA" by Jill Halcomb. p.179.
