another thread on 4 yr ss medal

I know we've seen some threads on 4 yr ss medals lately (see link below)and Kiefer had been trying to assemble some info from the forum members on this subject with regard to dims and weights, but there is one item I think is consistent with all originals - that is the fine stipple finish to the face of the medal. Is this correct?

I will post a pic of my medal (which I think is real) which depicts this feature.

Also if you follow the attached link to the end, you will see another example of this. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=32809

Do any of you guys have a good close-up detail of the finish of your medals that we can compare to?

What is the consensus, is this stipple feature (among others) consistent with a good 4 yr ss medal?

    Thanks, Al

I don't have any close ups to post (Steve T, are you out there buddy?) but yes, from all the known originals I've personally handled, stippling is consistent. Some of the phonys have stippling as well so please don't use just that criteria to try and determine originality. Just as a side note, crosshatching on the acorns seems to be consistent as well.
    Best regards,

    Tony

Thanks for looking and the comments Tony.

I agree with your statement that the stippling alone should not be taken as a sign of a good medal, but perhaps one of several positive indicators. I do appreciate your comment about the acorn cross hatching.

Looking forward to some close-ups and comments guys

Hi Al, my SS 4 year service medal has been seen on the forum before, but here are a couple of pics for you. I have tried to take some better pics, but the light is not good at this time of year.
        Hope these help you?
        Cheers, Ade.

                Thanks Ade....

... for taking the time to view my post and share the pics of your 4 ys ss medal here. My apologies for not responding sooner, but I've been quite busy with the holiday season the last week or so.

I have seen pics of your 4 yr ss medal on previous posts on the forum, and yours is a very nice example of this award. As can be seen in your pics,
the stippling is quite evident and typical for this item.

Based on other pics seen on the forum about the 4 yr ss medal, the finish/wear to the medals varies as would be expected, to reveal the brownish (tombak?) base metal beneath, but still the stippling is evident.

Any others with comments to add?

                Thanks,

                Al R.

Here's one more example of the stippling.

This medal ia a little more marked up due to some scratches to the surface paint.
