Black SS uniform of Otto Ernst Remer?

Maybe someone else out there saw this uniform?
A few years ago I used to frequently visit a dealer/collector in a nearby Surrey town.
He once showed me a photo of his business partner wearing a black SS uniform which purportedly belonged to Otto Ernst Remer who rose to fame in Berlin due to his part in the quashing of the later stages of the July 20th plot.
I only ever saw the cap, a black sidecap with very heavy wire insignia.
The owner was himself of a military background. The story of the uniform was that the owner's father's unit stopped a Jeep (or Kubelwagen?) during the Battle of the Bulge (I think), detained the passenger and let the driver go. Having released the driver (why?) they opened a case in the rear of the vehicle and found this uniform within - the owner's name being our friend Remer).
His father was later killed in the war and his effects (including the case) were returned to the family home where the dealer later found the trunk in the attic.
When he told me this story I was then amazed by his good fortune but since then several questions have occurred to me.
    1) Why would Remer (an Army man) have been awarded an honorary SS rank and uniform?
    2) Why (in the heat of battle) would anyone try and take along a possibly-incriminating dress uniform)?
    3) Why does this story sound horribly familiar?
If any other members from the South of England know of this uniform, or anyone else can recall the story, I'd like their views.
    Good hunting,

Remer was never in the SS.

In fact, he was never even a member of the NSDAP.

Black SS uniform of Otto Ernst Remer?

Exactly Robin - I asked that question at the time!
I'm not naming names because I believe the owner of this uniform has since died but there was controversy about him personally - an article in a local newspaper questioned the desirability of a person in the town dealing in Nazi memorabilia (that goes with the hobby) and doubted his military career.
He was supposed to have been presented with the Croix de Guerre by the French President after being traced by a French airman he rescued from behind enemy lines in Korea (?).
Anyway I digress - the owner is not the question here.
The question is why did he attribute this uniform to Remer of all people?
I don't expect to authenticate it, just wondering if there was another member out there who also heard this tale or saw the uniform, which he maintained was secured in a bank vault.
If there is I'm happy to mention the owner's name etc. in a PM.
        Onwards and upwards!

I wouldn't mind my local paper running a story of me and my dealing in German Militaria (Often mentioned as Nazi to make the story sound salacious in print), it would do wonders for business

            Believe me, you would!

Local papers (and national ones) are run by ignorant a$$holes.

This is a prime example of why it is IMPORTANT to learn the HISTORY and not just the militaria. Often the history trips up the fakers. Of course we haven't seen the uniform in this case, but the story cannot possibly be true, unless it was a Waffen-SS black panzer jacket and named to someone that sounded like Remer. As for the story... let's see the artifact. If it is authentic, then we'll talk about the story. Otherwise I can sit here and make up a whole book of stories!

Boy, you guys just don't know your collecting. Of course he had an honorary SS uniform. On another note, I've got Remer's tunic from his position later in life... original DDR Stasi tunic with his old TR breast eagle krazy-glued on. Only 20K if interested.

                        Sicher

Of course, any prospective purchaser would like a preliminary Foto. I have it tastefully displayed. All you get for 25k is the Tunic and the attatched insignia. All the accourtements are extra. Run this by any expert you desire.

Black SS uniform of Otto Ernst Remer

Firstly - a PM has been sent to David Fettes with more personal info of the dealer in question.
Secondly - I don't have this uniform - it belonged (supposedly) to a third party, now deceased, so I doubt it'll ever show up. I'd just wondered if there may have been a member who may have encounterd the dealer in question.
It's looking unlikely, unless my PM to David Fettes triggers some memories?
                          Regards to all,

P.S. Are there any publications detailing the career of Otto Ernst Remer (a fine portrait photo, by the way, Dr. Strangelove. I've only seen him in the clip of film at an oath-swearing parade and march-past after the end of the plot)
