    SS Books by Robin Lumsden

No doubt that Robin has written many books covering the SS.

I'd like to get some of these and have no idea what aspects they cover or the differences. Perhaps those who have a copy of these books would be so kind as to clarify?

    Here we go:

    1. Himmler's SS: Loyal to the Death's Head

    2. Himmler's Black Order 1923-45

    3. SS Regalia

    4. A Collector's Guide to the Allgemeine-SS

    5. The Black Corps: A Collector's Guide to the History and Regalia of the SS

or did I miss out any other books by Robin? Perhaps the man himself could clarify?

      Himmler's Black Order 1923-45

Robin's books are great--I have most and refer to them often. If you were to get just one, I would begin with Himmler's Black Order 1923-45--its comprehensive yet manageable wiith plenty of great photos.

I personally would choose The Collector's Guide to the Allgemeine SS, which I refer to all the time.

This little book has everything - history, rank tabs pictured, foot-regiments listed, explanation of the runes, explanations of the Orpo, Sipo, SD, Kripo and so on, SS Police, Hitler Youth and much else.

Invaluable. Nothing else like it out there.

I love looking through the SS regalia book, its just fun to look at with nice big photos. In fact I think I have a few copies, when I buy collections, I just keep that book around for fun.

Angolia out of print "Cloth insignia of the SS" is also a must have.

All I can add is that 'Himmler's SS: Loyal to the Death's Head' is a revamped version of 'Himmler's Black Order'. (The publishers brought it out under the new title after it had been out of print for many years.) So don't get one if you already have the other!

Robin, perhaps you could do a compendium? (a compiled edition?)

I'd personally suggest Himmler's Black Order/Himmler's SS as the most comprehensive of my SS books (IMHO). It was the last SS one I wrote and draws on much of the stuff I had published earlier.

                            That's a given, you don't need a detector.
