SS Tab and Shoulder Boards for Scrutiny

Hi guys – about 10 years ago whilst a university student I started collecting some German militaria. About 8 years ago I stopped collecting due to other interests and have been out of the hobby since. I have now dug up the old collection and am going through the items I bought some 8-10 years ago. As I was not very educated and on a very tight budget back then, I have no doubt some of the items I purchased on the cheap are fake, so, it’s time to put them to you all for scrutiny!

I have this small group of SS insignia (can’t remember where I acquired them). The shoulder boards are matching in everything except it looks as though one has oxidised and the other has not.

As I was relatively uneducated when I first started collecting, I am not kidding myself that these are real. That said, I welcome your opinions as well as what they may (or may not) be worth.

    Many thanks!

Hi Dave - it does look like bevo material, but I certainly am no expert. Were upgrades of this kind common?

What had me concerned was that it doesn't have the same backing as I have seen on other tabs (this one has a cardboard backing, which is reasonably fragile), and the twisted cord around the border looked a little thick, plus the hand sewing (which may have been the case if this was a hand-done upgrade).

      Would welcome further opinions

      Cheers!
