        2 New Titles for consideration

I am currently reading these 2 titles and thought that some here would also find them at least interesting. There is not much out there on these subjects especially my sub-interest of das ahnenerbe - and much of it is too fantastical. These strike a good balance and are entertaining reading IMO:

        1. Hitler's Master of the Dark Arts: Himmler's Black Knights and the Occult Origins of the SS by Bill Yenne (2010)

        2. The Science of the Swastika by Bernard Thomas Mees - (2008)

        Synopsis from googlebooks:

The first theoretically informed study of the relationship between an academic discipline and what the Nazis termed their Weltanschouung. Analyzes Sinnbildforschung, German ideograph or swastika studies, though more broadly it tells the tale of the development of German antiquarian studies (ancient Germanic history, archaeology, anthropology, folklore, historical linguistics and philology) under the influence of radicalrightwing politics, and the contemporary construction of 'Germanicness' and its role in Nazi thought. The swastika and similar symbols were employed by the ancestors of the modern-day Germans. As these had also become emblematic symbols of the forces of German reaction, Sinnbildforschung became intrinsically connected with the National Socialist regime after 1933 and disappeared along with the Third Reich in 1945. With the Nazi seizure of power, ideographic studies became directly supported by the state. In 1935 an organization was founded within the SS to further its study, the SS-Ahnenerbe. Most infamous as the organ through which medical experiments were arranged to be performed on the inmates of concentration camps, the Ahnenerbe was founded as a historical research institution before it expanded its horizons to the physical sciences.

          Hi evereyone,

After reading several book for many years now about Hitler, the NSDAP and the SS and their religieous view on the world I came to the following simply conclusion that allow me to give a certain understanding why they did all that horrible things :

Created under support of the Thule -which in turn were influed by many pan Germanic thoughts- the religion of the Aryan people was based on the fact that "God" was in their own blood. That's why blood had to be kept pure. Second sin was weakness and Christian compassion. It was only good to live according to the Darwinstic rules of nature. The strong specimen had to give all oppurtinity to develop itself. Keeping the weak alive (A human Christian thought) was a sin against nature in the NAZI religion.
They also saw "the evil" in the God that was adored by the Jews what they called the materialistic God.

Many authors who wrote about Hitler depict him as a non-religious person. But that simply can't be true. All the feeling for the theatralic and Mystic, his own believe that he was send for a mission, the flags, the uniforms and torches, it's not the creation of a man without religion feelings.

          Regards, Wim

Well said Wim and a conclussion that I agree with. It's ironic that most of the NSDAP leadership were born Catholic.

Himmler explained how Catholics made better SS as they were used to following orders and Protestants were better SA as they were used to being independant thinkers....
But Hitler gloated over not having to worry about Protestantism (as he did over Catholicism) as it basically capitulated over to Hitler without any hesitation...while in some quarters there was always a Catholic resistance to nazism.
