This piece is very cool but I'm not sold on it being pre 1945. As far as I know the SS were against using gold or gold toning on Jewelery.

My first impression is that it is a fantasy piece. It is an odd configuration of symbols, and the SS were not known for wearing flashy jewelry (even if it was made in France). I would have someone experienced in 1940's jewelry examine it.

What type of stone is that?

What is the hallmark marking, can't quite make out the #'s.

585 would be 14k , as european mark their gold by content that way, have you tested it with a presidium diamond tester. Youll need one that can differentiate between real diamonds and moisinite or other synthetics, as they make the synthetics now such that they are actually harder than natural diamonds. That is if it is a diamond instead of some other stone.
Question: what did the people that had this before you say about where they acquired the stickpin? If it was real cheap id bet its original , and a jewelers piece, if it was expensive , i would look at it with much apathy and suspicion. Interesting piece regardless, as it doesnt seem new.

              was 585 a common hallmark in the 1940's ?
I thought Europeans shunned low grade gold like 14k, maybe that is a more recent trend.

Europeans always mark gold by content percentage. 575 is 14k 875 i think is 18k. Its possible it could be wartime. if the story was with it, or it was reasonable in price, those things do count at times whe you are trying to cut thru the mire when you run across things like this.. If the person selling it wasnt trying to get rich, and just get what the gold and stone is worth, thats a plus leading me to give it more consideration. Its is well made, has the nordic style swas, and i think its time to test the stone, and jeweler will do it for free, right in front of you.(if you dont have a tester. I dont want to know what you paid, just if it was reasonable or you felt too high.(priced)
You dont have to say where you got it, just any story if there is any. Id say if the stones a real diamond, has cut ,color, and clarity, it might be a good piece. you know the ss stole everythig they could take from the jews in the camps, and jews hid things very carefully , like diamonds. Not that this is what this is, but one must try and think of all the possible explanations. You could buy gold jeweler items , or have them special made. (if you had the money.)
Whoever had it if original was no shmuck, id say important or had bucks.

That is an interesting piece. I would think it is original to the period as the cost to make something like that today would probably be very expensive as it looks like a very fine piece of craftsmanship. For example maybe a jeweller would charge you let us say a thousand dollars to make it, and how much could you really sell it for being an un-identified piece...then if the diamond is real you have the value of that on top of it. Just my speculation here. I agree with the SS frowning on the use of gold but keep in mind that the runes here are silver in color.

                  Cheers,

                  John
